Japanese Cooking

On Thursday I did my first Japanese cooking. Which turned out to not really be Japanese cooking, but oh well. :P

So I looked up a recipe for Yaki Soba on Google, and decided it looked enough like a "throw a bunch of random stuff together and hope for the best" recipe to try. I found that the actual cooking time is pretty short, especially if the noodles are pre-made. But chopping up the different vegetables takes longer. A lot of prep work, but once you're ready to go, it really goes fast.

I think it looks pretty good!

The only problem was I didn't really bother measuring the ingredients beforehand. So while the proportions turned out right, somehow all the cabbage, vegetables, noodles, and meat, turned out to be a lot more than I had expected once I dumped them all in the pan. At least Souichirou liked it the next day...

Old poem

Friends have complained I don't post anything I write online. So here is a short poem that I don't think I'll ever submit because poems aren't really my thing. This poem I like, however, because when I was writing it I only focused on what sounded good and didn't try to force any particular meaning. So of course it sounds like it's saying something.

Casting the Spell

I built my tower one brick at a time
With walls too high for a prince to climb.
I built my tower brick by brick
The walls exactly a heartbeat thick.

I planted round a maze of thorns
be sure no rose was ever born.
I slowly glued each stone to stone
a princess waits, and waits alone.
Never, never to be free
Locked the door, lost the key.

A tower safe from every fear
Yet day by day and year by year
The walls will crumble stone to sand
The tower sink into the land
While in the dungeon wakens slow
A dreaming dragon down below.

So what brave prince will have the art
To crack my ribs and free my heart?

Dating Stereotypes

I can relate a lot to these pictures... Sometimes it seems like some types of biracial couples are accepted and normal, while others are just seen as really strange.

I dunno, maybe I just have really strange taste?

New Year

And some pictures from New Year's Eve

At the aquarium in Miyajima. We also got iPhone charms there. Luckily they matched the previous charms really well.

This is the "Flame of Oath." Supposedly it's good luck for lovers. It's hard to see but there's a flame in the middle of the glass.

We took the ropeway up to Mt. Misen. It was so cold!

It was also really cold down by the Torii gate because the tide didn't go down until the afternoon.

We got a stuffed deer, which we started calling the Annoying Deer, because the deer are so aggressive on Miyajima. Of course, our stuffed deer was actually really cute. He also came to the bar later when we stayed up for the countdown. This was the first time I wasn't at my parent's house for New Year's. Feeling very grown up here.
